Bigfoot, also called Sasquatch, is the most famous cryptid in North America. People who claim to have seen him describe a huge ape-like creature, anywhere from 7 to 10 feet tall, covered in dark hair, walking upright on two legs. Most reported sightings happen in the dense forests of the Pacific Northwest, in places like Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia.
The most famous “evidence” is a 1967 video known as the Patterson-Gimlin film, which shows a tall hairy figure walking across a clearing. Experts have argued about it for over 50 years. Some say it is clearly a costume. Others say the muscle movements look too realistic for a person in a suit. No one has settled it.
Native American tribes in the region had stories about a giant forest being long before the modern Bigfoot craze. The name “Sasquatch” comes from a word in the Halkomelem language meaning “wild man.” So far, no one has found a body, bones, or DNA, but new sightings keep being reported every year.
