The Dubai Mall in the United Arab Emirates isn’t really a mall - it’s almost a small city with a roof. It covers over 12 million square feet and packs in more than 1,200 shops, hundreds of restaurants, a full ice-skating rink and a movie theater with 22 screens. More than 100 million people walk through its doors every year.
Right in the middle, there is an aquarium tank with a glass wall three stories tall. Sharks, stingrays and thousands of fish drift past shoppers as if the people are the ones inside a tank. You can even walk through a tunnel underneath and have a sand tiger shark cruise right above your head.
To get around without getting lost, the mall hands out maps that look more like subway diagrams. Some people use rental scooters between shops. A few visitors have said they spent an entire weekend inside and still didn’t see every floor. That is how big the world’s biggest mall really is.
