An axolotl can regrow its legs - and parts of its brain.
THE FULL STORY

The axolotl is a kind of salamander with a permanent smile and feathery gills. Its real superpower is regeneration: if it loses a leg, it simply grows a new one - bones, muscles, nerves and all - usually without a single scar.

It doesn’t stop at legs. Axolotls can regrow their tail, parts of their heart, and even sections of their brain and spinal cord. Scientists study them closely, hoping to learn how human healing might one day be improved.

Strangely, axolotls also stay in their β€œbaby” underwater form their whole lives instead of growing up into land salamanders - a trait called neoteny.
