THE FULL STORY

In 1986, American car designer Jay Ohrberg built a limousine for the record books. The American Dream stretched 100 feet from bumper to bumper, used 26 wheels to spread its weight, and was driven from both ends. To turn corners on normal streets, the whole car bent in the middle like a giant articulated bus.

Inside, it had everything you’d expect from a rolling movie set. There was a tiny swimming pool with a diving board, a Jacuzzi, a king-sized waterbed, multiple TVs, and a helipad on the roof. Of course nothing useful could actually land there, but it looked spectacular in photos and music videos.

The car wasn’t really practical to drive anywhere. After years of being rented for ads, it ended up sitting outside in a junkyard for decades. It was eventually restored in 2022 and officially regained its Guinness World Record as the longest car ever built. Don’t expect to see one in your driveway.
