Monaco is the second-smallest country in the world. The entire nation covers just over 2 square kilometres on the French Mediterranean coast - small enough to walk across in under an hour. Despite its tiny size, around 40,000 people live there.
It’s also the wealthiest country per person on the planet. Roughly one in three residents is a millionaire, drawn by Monaco’s lack of income tax and famous casino. Apartments often sell for over 100,000 dollars per square metre.
Once a year, Monaco’s narrow city streets become a Formula 1 racetrack for the Monaco Grand Prix. Drivers thread their cars between concrete barriers at over 290 km/h, weaving past harbours full of superyachts. It’s one of the trickiest races on the F1 calendar.
