Osiris and Isis were two of the most beloved gods in ancient Egyptian mythology. Osiris was a wise king who taught humans farming and laws. Isis was a goddess of magic and his loving wife. The legend says Osiris’s jealous brother Set tricked him, killed him, and chopped his body into many pieces, scattering them across Egypt.
Isis refused to give up. According to the myth, she traveled the length of Egypt collecting every piece of her husband. With the help of Anubis, she wrapped him back together - which is supposed to be why the Egyptians invented mummification in the first place.
Isis used powerful magic to revive Osiris just long enough for them to have a son named Horus. Then Osiris became the king of the underworld, ruling over the dead. Horus grew up and eventually battled Set to take back his father’s throne. This whole story was so important that Egyptians retold it for over 3,000 years.
