Lesotho is a small mountainous country in southern Africa, completely surrounded by South Africa. Its lowest point - the bottom of its lowest valley - sits 1,400 metres above sea level, which makes Lesotho the only country in the world where every single piece of land is at least a kilometre up.
Locals call it βthe Kingdom in the Sky.β The highest village, Sani Top, is reached by a winding mountain pass that has been called the most dangerous road in Africa. Snow falls on the peaks every winter, which is rare anywhere south of the equator on this continent.
Lesotho is also one of only three countries in the world that are completely surrounded by a single neighbour (the others are Vatican City and San Marino, both inside Italy). Its main exports are wool, water, and skilled diamond cutters.
